A No B.S. Guide To Starting The Year Right
It’s a new year, and you’re all hyped and excited to jot down all your resolutions. You make a list and promise that this is the year where you transform yourself and be the best you can be.
Fast forward six months, and you haven’t ticked off one item on your list. Sounds familiar?
We’ve all been there. But we got good news for you: You can always start again. Ahead, we listed five things that’ll give you a headstart on kicking off 2023 without a hitch.
1 — Create a Morning Routine
We’ve all tried and failed (and tried again) to be morning persons in 2022. This year, it’s time to set things straight. Whether you’re building a routine from scratch or resurrecting an old one, make sure you’re following a system that’s made for you—not from the internet or your favorite influencer.
How do you want to start your mornings? With a prayer? A cup of coffee? A chapter of your current read? Whatever you decide on, work towards it, and always mark it off your to-do list.
2 — Opt for Less Screen Time
We talked about keeping your main character energy this 2023 but spare the focus on capturing every single thing on social media. Doing so will make you more present and authentic, thus enjoying the things that are actually in front of you. The best approach is to entirely forget about your camera (at least for a few hours) and make the most of your main character moment—just as any true main character would.
3 — Learn a New Skill (or Two)
Taking up a new hobby or learning a new skill is a great way to make this year more interesting. For example, consider getting into the arts and learning to paint or play an instrument. Or, If you’re into culture and travel, learning a new language might be more up your alley.
You can also dive into more practical things like working on cars or cooking classes. Whatever that may be, you can be sure that by the end of this year, you’ll have accomplished something you haven’t in previous years.
4 — Organize Your Workspace
Like any complex machinery, your mind performs at its best when it's uncluttered. You’ll be surprised at how much a messy workspace can affect your efficiency and focus.
Make it a point to open up this year’s first week of work sitting on a neat and organized desk. Maybe it’s about time you shopped for new desk organizers or a work table if you work from home. You and your brain will thank yourself for the increased clarity and more enjoyable work days.
5 — Make Time for Yourself
Remember that you’re only as good as your mental mileage. This year, be kinder to yourself and make sure you intentionally give yourself time to rest and recollect. Your me-time should be non-negotiable. Treat yourself to a nice dinner, get a massage, or just stay home and brew your favorite coffee.
